One of the keys to Satie’s humor is the fact that instead of repressing his illusions he asserted them– and turned out in the end to have a good hold on reality.

“Don’t part with your illusions,” Mark Twain advises with the wisdom of a fellow humorist, “When they have gone you may still exist but you have ceased to be alive.”
